A few months ago, Other Half Brewing Company released a series of Imperial IPAs with very unique names — Cabbage, Broccoli, Cheddar, and Cheddar Broccoli. Broccoli and Double Dry-Hopped Broccoli are released on a rotating basis, while Cabbage, Cheddar, and Cheddar Broccoli were only brewed and released twice.
Cheddar Broccoli is an Imperial IPA brewed and dry-hopped with Simcoe, Mosaic, Hallertau Blanc, and Cascade hops. Other Half recently released Cheddar Broccoli again. Unfortunately, we are not familiar with the strain of yeast used in the majority of Other Half’s delicious IPAs, but our best guess is some variation of London Ale yeast.
Glassware: Hops on Hops Snifter Glass
The Hops on Hops craft beer snifter glass is the first craft beer glass in the Hops on Hops series. We designed the glass to resemble five individual Galena hop cones stacked on top of each other.
The artwork is simple, unique, and vibrant. Stay tuned, as we plan on releasing our next Hops on Hops craft beer glass with Citra hop cones.
The Hops on Hops snifter glass is available for purchase on our website.
Appearance:
Cheddar Broccoli IPA pours a hazy opaque orange juice color with a lingering frothy white head.
Nose:
It took us a couple of minutes to hone in on the wonderful aromatics of Cheddar Broccoli. This hazy Imperial IPA displayed dank pine and citrus aromas. Specifically, the beer smelled like pungent orange and grapefruit with hints of pine, but the fleshy citrus dominated the aroma of the beer.
Palate:
The aroma and flavor characteristics were very similar; however, the citrus and pine were more balanced than the aroma. The resinous pine and juicy citrus flavors were well-rounded, and the moderate piney bitterness complemented the hop profile extremely well.
Final Thoughts:
Other Half Brewing Company consistently produces flavorful, aromatic, and well thought out IPAs. We did not expect the flavors to blend together so well.
Other Half Brewing Company is our favorite craft brewery on the Northeast. We would definitely recommend visiting their brewery and trying a few of their craft beer offerings. I would suggest seeking out Broccoli, Double Dry-Hopped Broccoli, and Hop Showers, as they are three of Other Half’s flagship IPAs.
